Build a strong foundation in ceramics through this comprehensive eight-week course for beginner through intermediate potters. Each 2.5-hour class combines hands-on projects with deeper instruction about clay, tools, techniques, and the ceramic process - including not just how things work, but why. If you love learning about the science behind the art, then this class series is for you!
Students will explore foundational handbuilding techniques, wheel throwing, surface decoration, glazing, and kiln firing while learning about clay bodies, moisture stages, construction methods, glaze application, and how materials change throughout the firing process. Projects may include mugs, dishware, vases, and sculptural pieces such as candleholders or birdhouses.
Whether you’re completely new to clay or want to strengthen your existing skills, Pottery 101 will help you make more intentional creative decisions, troubleshoot common problems, and develop a well-rounded understanding of ceramics. **After purchase you will receive an email that includes a student information form and a waiver to fill out prior to the beginning of the program.
