1. Respect the Studio & Each Other

Be kind and respectful to other artists, staff, and visitors. Constructive feedback is welcome when it is requested.

Listen to and follow staff instructions.

Do not touch, move, or handle another person’s work.

During classes: Do not use tools or equipment unless instructed or approved by your instructor.

During Open Studio: Do not use equipment or tools you are unfamiliar with. Ask a staff member for a demonstration first.

Use tools, equipment, and materials responsibly. Take only the amount of glaze or other materials you need, and handle studio tools and equipment with care.

2. Clean Up After Yourself

Leave your workspace, tools, and equipment clean and ready for the next person. Do not leave clay, glaze, or other materials on tools, tables, wheels, or equipment.

If you’re unsure how to clean something, ask a staff member.

3. No Clay Down the Sinks

Do not put clay down any sink. This includes clay water, scraps, chunks, slurry, and even small amounts of clay.

Dispose of clay and clay water in the appropriate labeled buckets.

4. No Glaze Down the Sinks

Do not pour glaze or glaze-cleaning water down any sink. Use the designated glaze disposal and cleaning containers.

5. Label & Store Your Work

All work must be labeled with your name.

Work in Progress If you plan to continue working on a piece later:

• Place it on a ware board.

• Complete and attach a project tag.

• Wrap the piece in plastic.

• Place it on the appropriate Work in Progress shelf labeled for your class, workshop, or Open Studio.

Ready to Fire If your piece is finished and ready for firing:

• Place it unwrapped on a ware board.

• Complete a project tag and make sure the entire tag is on the ware board.

• Place the ware board on the stainless-steel table by the reception desk.

6. Wipe Your Bottoms!

There must be on the bottom of a piece when it is submitted for firing.

Pieces with glaze on the bottom will be moved to the rather than fired.

Pieces remaining on the Reject Shelf for more than will be discarded.

7. Kiln Room — Staff Only

Do not enter the kiln room unless accompanied by a staff member.

8. Keep Clay & Glaze Dust to a Minimum

Ceramic dust is a health hazard. Help us keep the studio clean and minimize airborne clay and glaze dust.

No sanding, grinding, or other dust-producing methods without staff approval.

9. Children During Open Studio

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult during Open Studio. Children are welcome during open studio! 

10. Dress for the Studio

Closed-toe shoes and appropriate clothing are required while working in the studio.

Secure long hair and loose clothing when using pottery wheels or other equipment.

11. Report Problems

Tell a staff member promptly about spills, full buckets, damaged tools, malfunctioning equipment, unsafe conditions, or anything else that needs attention.

Please do not attempt to repair studio equipment yourself.

12. Food & Drinks

Keep food and drinks separate from clay, glaze, and other ceramic materials.

Closed water bottles are welcome in studio work areas.

13. Outside Materials Require Approval

Do not bring or use outside clay, glaze, underglaze, or other ceramic materials, without written approval by staff. Each of these materials must be tested with our systems. 

14. Finish Cleanup Before Closing

Cleanup must be or by the end of your scheduled class or workshop.

Plan your work accordingly and leave enough time to thoroughly clean your workspace, tools, and equipment before you leave.
